5 Pointers In Determining If Your Custom Labels Are Too Much

Many people are excited by the new design technologies we have today. In terms of printing labels, more and more people think that going for wilder and often unusual layouts using those design technologies are the key to more powerful and eye catching custom labels.

However, while innovation and creativity is always good for color labels, there are still times when what people produce is too much for a decent label.

In this tutorial, I am going to give you five pointers in determining if your own color labels are too much for a decent business or project. There is a fine line between creativity and just sheer artistic junk really. So you better know what is what before you go serious with your label printing.

1. When the size and shape get too complicated.

Labels typically should have a distinct size and shape. This is because they are typically meant to be placed at a certain area or item. If the size and shape get too complicated in the name of design however, this can post problems. It can be good if the unusual size and shape contributes to the design.

However, more often than not, having weirdly shaped color label makes its printing and deployment a lot harder. So if your own label designs have unusual shapes and sizes, you might want to rethink that and go for a simpler configuration instead. Believe me, you will save a lot of time and money when you do.

2. When the material costs go way up.

If your label printing costs are going way up due to design customization, special material elements and other such additions, it is a big sign that your own labels are getting a bit too much. While labels are best printed in the best quality inks, if your printing goes way up because of all your customization, the whole practicality of printing those custom labels must be questioned. Those are labels after all and not the main product or item. So print your labels economically. That is better than spending superfluously on a design with special materials only to find out that it fails or is only a moderate success.

3. When the colors are just too many and too much.

If your labels have too many colors, it is also a sign that they are becoming too much. The truth is, using only a minimum of one or two dominant colors is best for label printing. This makes the labels more visible and of course, it is far easier on the eyes than violently multi-colored color schemes. So see if you have the right color scheme. Any more than 3 dominant colors and your labels will definitely become too much for most.

4. When there is too much information in the label.

If the text information and other content are printed all over the place in the label layout, this is also a sign that the design is a bit too much. Labels are small prints really and the amount of information they carry is limited. If there is too much text in the label, this clutters up the design making readers really more confused about the labels themselves. So it is best to cut down your label content and print only the minimum content needed to make the labels work. The cleaner and shorter the text is, the better.

5. When the title and message is hard to read easily.

Finally, a custom label can be too much if the title of the message is hard to read because of the font styles and colors. While it can be fun to use interesting and new font styles on the Internet, making those styles too wild and hard to understand reduces the usefulness of your labels really. So make sure you use simple sans serif fonts in your label designs so that people can quickly read and understand what the label is all about. Avoid those wild font styles because it can make the design too much.

So remember all of these well, and your label printing should be not end up becoming to gaudy or too much for most people.
